Hey Guys,

Well the gremlins set in at the weekend to good to be true; I was finishing out the last tank of fuel when the car decided to get a mind of its own. I think the battery pack failed in the car. It took off like a mad thing and I had no control over it straight into the wall at full throttle.

The chassis is bent like a banana so it is currently in pieces all over my kitchen floor and ready for some serious panel beating. Things going well will have her back together over the next night or two. Is there a fail safe you can buy for these to prevent them from going A wall if something goes wrong with the battery pack in the receiver. Will post some pictures of the not so new anymore sick car later..

Cheers,

Sonic.

Well...

Told you Wink

I have a failsafe that I'm not using, but it was not working properly with Kyosho radio. I can lend it to you for test.

If you want to buy one, check any RC shop.

Sorry to hear that, some failsafes don't cater for low battery, just interference, i have one that i got from Modelworld a few years ago that has low battery and interference protection it's a GWS FS-1. Be careful the other model FS-2 doesn't act on low battery.

Thanks Guys,

Better get used to pulling this thing apart, I think I’ll be buying a failsafe top of the list.

It was mad one min everything fine having a good run next bang like a hare out of a trap straight into the wall.

Got the chassis straight so now to put her back together and fingers crossed getting it running. The batteries done last that long at all and there is no warning when they are knackered.

I see what you mean about the chassis not being that strong and easily getting damaged.

The list is getting longer failsafe starter box and on we go. What kind of money are you looking at for the failsafe?

Cheers lads,

Sonic.

I can't really remember, i think it was about €20, Modelworld are selling venom stuff also, i've heard the venom failsafe is good, high powered rechargeable batteries are a must or if you are getting a charger then a 6v reciever hump pack (5-cell) is the norm, the steering will be faster also. If you have high mah rechargeable AA's though you'd get good runtime for the time being.

Check this shop

http://stores.shop.ebay.ie/component-shop_Receiver-Battery-Packs_W0QQ_fsubZ204077019QQ_sidZ68173889QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322
Very fair prices, but he does not have a proper battery pack at the moment.
You need a 6V hump battery pack but not built with AA batterys but shorter cells of a bigger diameter. Always check dimensions (provided when you open an item) if it fits your battery tray.
4 standard rechargables are not a good option because thay give 4.8 V while you need 6V.  I have something like that; 1600 mAh is big enough:
http://cgi.ebay.ie/Intellect-1600mAh-2-3A-6V-Hump-Pack-F1-Receiver-Battery_W0QQitemZ110433634519QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN?hash=item19b65b88d7

You will need also a charger for that. Buing a charger keep in mind, that you will buy a starter box at some point that will also need a battery that have different voltage for sure. Look for more advanced charger that have voltage selector. You will have one charger for everything.

Don't be too quick with hammering the chasis. The front part, where are four screws holding the front suspension must be slightly up:

back ________________________/ front

First time I did it I made it completely flat and I could not install front suspension Smile

Piotr,

Thanks for the links and the offer of the fail safe, yea I need to get my hands on a battery pack and charger I’ll have a shop around this week.

Don’t worry I will be gentle with the chassis and keep in mind that the front needs to be slightly raised. I did some shopping around for a replacement just in case but they are not cheap!

Will have to pop in to Model World to have a look at some starter boxes, can be a right pig to start with the pull start, I’ll be like a body builder at the rate I’m going who needs weights just get a pull start.

Things going well I’ll try and put her back tomorrow evening and at least run the motor if it starts. Hope to at least try and hobble around the track on Sunday. Have a look at the chassis believe me its worst than the picture.

Thanks for the replies also thanks to DirtRacer for advice on failsafe.

Sonic you could use a throttle return spring to close the carb if the batteries fail, or a strong elastic band might work, either just strong enough to close the throttle when you switch off the radio. Just an idea until you get a failsafe

Hey Guys,

Well job done she is back together and I gave it a run this evening. Needs some tuning but that will come over the next couple of runs. Five tanks through her now so I can start to give it a little more power.

Great crack out on the frozen driveway, rebuild a success time to get the failsafe in and order a battery pack. Now All I have to do is get used to the controls and keep it out of the wall.

DirtRacer thanks for the tips.

Sonic.

Such accidets have also a good side. After a few you will know every nut of you car and any work you will be able to do fast and without help of the manual. After a few rebuilds I forgot where my manual is Smile.

GX21 engine is one of the easiest engines to break in and tune in the world!
