Hello Guys, I am totally new to this and have wanted a nitro buggy for a while, the thing is what to buy…. There is a guy up the country is selling his kyosho inferno 7.5 mp sport, it’s about 2 years old and not used very much or so he tells me. Would this be suitable for a newbie. I was also looking at a hobao hyper 7 which would be the best. Thanks in advance for your response sonic. Ho the guy is looking for 180 for the inferno is that a reasonable price!! |

Hey Sonic. Well all i can tell you is the Inferno Starts at €299 in the local model shop, check this link to the shops website and product listing for off road cars. Thats brand new out of the box, no worn parts to worry about or replace. And it's a good buggy to start with. After that the price does go up a bit, depending on how serious you want to take it. The Hyper 7 has been around quiet a while, and 2 replacement models are out since, they are now onto version 9.x. Regards, Kevin |

I think 180 for a 2 years old car is abit pricy (but it depends on specification).Note the colour of the chasis. If it is blue it is quite soft standard chasis. Graphite is harder. Take a note if the top of the front suspension (somewhere around body pin) is is connected with a rod to a chasis just before cetre differential. If this rod (called a torque rod) is missing you will have bent chasis after a first crash (I went through this ). Basic models do not have it.
I bought two on eBay paying around 100 EUR each. It is not plenty of them but sometimes they appear. Keep in mind that you will crash it and break it for sure. Do not go for anything expensive until you find out that you like it and gain some skills in both driving and maintaning the car.
If you are ready to pay 180 for used, maybe consider spendinig 50 more and check this:
http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=ShowSpecification&ItemID=29562
Ii is a basic model but at least new.
And be prepared for further expenses. You will need lot's of spares . It is not the cheapest hobby in the world. |

Guys,
Thanks for your replies now I’m worried worn parts damaged chassis, the guy told me he only put a couple of bottles of fuel through it yet he has upgraded the servos and changed the main gear too….. Sounds like this machine has been around for a while?
He also told me that the wheels were the weak point on the buggy after I noticed one was different to the rest. That said everything is coming with it glow starter and charger.
It looks ok but hey how can I be sure.
Listen what do you guys think I would eventually like to do some racing with the club but is this model up to it, or I’m I wasting my time.
Ho it’s a 7.5 mp sport if that means anything.
Thanks Guys.
the help is much appricated.. |

Sonic, The 7.5 has been around a number of years alright. But as Piotr said 180€ is probably a bit on the high side. If i was going to pay that much for a second hand i'd go the extra 100 or so for a brand new one, where every you decide to buy it. As far as i know the new ones come with a glow starter in the box also. And not have the worries of worn parts to replace etc.. If you've not raced one of these before, it's definitely a good entry level buggy. The only thing that will hold you back is the engine, this is probably the first thing you would be upgrading along with getting a starter box, to start the motor on. It's plenty quick enough for most of the racing we do at MotherHubards. Our racing is finished at Mother Hubards until after Christmas, we'll be back out on Sunday 3rd January (starting between 10:30-11:00am), weather permitting. There will be a few there anyway even if the weather is on the bad side. Kevin |

Guys,
Thanks again for your response, I’m now starting to think along the lines of a new buggy,
I don’t think that ill get the other one for any less to be honest he seems to think its worth every penny with all the upgrades.
Not very many secondhand ones for sale out there. Ill pop in to model world and see what type of a deal he can do or look at some to the sites you mentioned.
I don’t want to spend a fortune and then find I’m not going to use it after a couple of weeks.
Is there any other model I should be looking at?
Cheers all help greatly appreciated. |

Kyosho inferno is a good entry level RTR for anyone starting off. As you mentioned there is an earler post there is also the Hyper 7 & 8 available as RTR. There is also a RTR version of Hong Nor, but no one at the club running one as far as i'm aware. |

Hi Again,
Just a quick update looks like I’m going to go for the new MK4 inferno, happy days its my Xmas present just need to get some fuel and should be ready for Santa.
Hope I made the right choice looking forward to getting it now…
Thanks for all the help and I’ll keep you posted.
Might even need some help getting it going.

Cheers Piotr,
Hopefully I won’t break it Christmas day that’s providing I get it started.
Just another quick one do you need to break in the engine & if so is there much to it?
All going well if I don’t get called into work hope to make it up to the track in the New Year….
Will most likely just sit out the first visit? Don’t want to hold every one else up….
Will be into the field beside the house to try and learn how to operate it first.
Thanks again for all the responses it was a real help.
Sonic. |

You need to break in the new engine. The detailed description how to do it should be in the car manual. Starting for the first time may be tricky using a pull start. Try to heat the engine head with a hairdryer first for a 5-10 min (with removed body shell).
Read the pinned topics of this forum http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/index.php?showforum=52 Watch this series of videos (21) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOPyZ25Hgjg It is different model but all the general rules are the same.
In case you could not start the engine for a long time, stop the attempts. Bring it to the track on the 3/01 and good people will take care of your car. |

Hi Sonic, welcome to the forum, don't worry about holding people up on the track, there's really nothing to worry about, the track we will be using for the next few months is on road marked out with piping so is good practice for getting used to the car. Don't use your new tyres on the tarmac though they'll be worn out in no time, come and find me (Darren) you can have a set of tires i'm finished with that are worn out off-road tires but will be ok to get you going, enjoy your new car and see you soon |

Cheers DirtRacer,
Everything going well should be up at the track, providing I don’t wreck the car over the Christmas!! I’m going to have a go running it in but if I have any problems I’ll just leave it and bring it along and get you guys to help me better safe than sorry.
Thanks for the offer of the tyres that’s much appreciated.
I’ll keep you posted on my progress over the next couple of days..

This is probably the most popular thread subject on all the RC forums. And there is no stright answer.
For the start: whatever you like. Just don't buy too cheap. Buy cheap = buy twice.
Anything between 200 and 300 euro should be good.

There is a model shop in Liosban Estate called Modelworld. It is beside car wash. You can get a bit of advice there too.
btw.
